Bear (Formerly Known as Henry) - Adopted March, 2008

Bear's new mom writes:

We are all adjusting!

He, Bear (Henry/Toby) is getting used to his new home, men and his name! ‘Little Bear’ (Macoos) is my daughter's Ojibwe name, so Bear it is!

He was obviously traumatized by some poor excuse for a human being. He would submissively piddle and shake. It was horrible to see and made us want to cry. We have learned how to earn his trust and how the oddest things made him feel terror. Now he runs to everyone who comes in the door and rarely resorts to his ‘flash backs’. He is more assertive with some things and is gaining confidence in being the good dog he is! Now he is a loving silly guy. My daughter, the ‘owner’ (10 yrs old) is doing an amazing job with him. She is taking him and our other guy for a long walk every day. She is so responsible, I am very proud. They sleep together every night and he knows when it is time to go to bed. If he has to go out after she goes to bed, he “knocks” on the door. And when he is done going “out” he “knocks” on her door to get back in. SO SMART!

He is so silly and it is such a joy to see him play and be goofy. He just has the most loving personality. When he loves you, he puts his paws on your shoulders while you are sitting and kisses you and snuggles his head in your neck. It is like he just can’t get close enough.

He is a little rough with our older guy, he doesn’t mean to be; he is just a lug head sometimes and hurts him. We are trying to get him to learn to be gentle around Teddy. I am going to send Bear and my daughter, Dharma, to obedience classes this summer. That way they both build their confidence as dog and owner.

So now we have it, Teddy & Bear. We are hoping for a third soon! Even with 5 kids, we just wouldn’t feel complete as a family with out our furry kids!

Thanks for all you do! God bless!
