Jasper - Adopted January, 2008

Jasper's new dad sent his former foster mom a wonderful update and lots of great photos:

Jasper continues to unfold in interesting ways. He has taken to exploring the house when I'm in the shower, always coming back to check in. He has completely mastered the stairs from the main floor to the 2nd level. He goes up and down, sometimes bouncing this way and that, forwards, backward, and sometimes at full tilt! Sounds like a herd of elephants.

Going down the stairs to my lower level has been more challenging. He still stalls at the top, but has no problem attacking them from the lower level up when we come in from the garage. We are working at it, desensitizing whatever anxiety remains. He has no problem with lower level steps at my friend's house, but those steps are carpeted.

Loves to go for rides and has the routine down with less squeaking and yammering. He has his area in the back end of the suv. He jumps in and out without a hitch. He is not too happy about waiting for very long if I step in to show a house or visit a shop.

One to two walks a day, plus yard play. We are working on fetching. One trip to the mail box each day off leash, he hasn't strayed yet. I guess that is another good thing about him loving to be close by.

Kennel time is getting smoother. He squalls a little at first being put in, but settles down a little faster each day. We are up to 4 - 6 hours. When I arrive home he is sitting/laying there peacefully, and always happy to see me. I have noticed that he isn't a big bone or nylabone chewer. The Mother Hubbard's biscuits are getting the tartar off his back teeth.

Eating is a slow process as we talked earlier. He never has taken to the dry food since being here. I have continued trying with the last of the dry food that you brought over, I have also tried with the Purina lamb and rice that I had purchased. I have tried to wait him out, but don't want him to drop in weight. To keep his weight consistent I did transition his morning meal to 3 eggs, a little milk and 2 slices of 12 grain bread torn into bite size pieces, stirred together and cooked. Loves that. : ) Evening meals have been about a 1/2 can of a natural grade wet food, which he consents to eat with a little encouragement. Efforts to introduce the dry kibble, even in the slightest way, has had him turn up his nose and walk away.

No shortage of energy. Seems happy and more comfortable each day. Content to lay on his bed at my home office with one leg behind his head. : ) Night time tv watching and bedtime are two of his most favorite times for pets and cuddling up, true to your description.
